Live The Life You Want

You want to feel better about yourself overall. You’d love to have more confidence when you walk into a room. Like you’re comfortable speaking up and being seen as your authentic self.
You want to look in the mirror, and not just know the person looking back at you, but like them as well.
It would be nice to be comfortable feeling seen and heard for who you are. You can learn to express yourself and get your needs met without argument or confrontation.
You want to feel like you’ve got some control over your life. As though you can know who you are, where you are going, and have confidence that you can get there.
Become More Confidently You

We all do human differently; therapy helps you figure out how to do it in a way that actually works for you. In therapy, you work with your therapist to look closely at the emotional discomfort you are experiencing.

We use questions to examine your life in great depth and identify the parts that aren’t working for you.

We look closely at who you are and what’s going on in your life so that we can figure out how to help you move forward in a way that is authentic to you.

Therapy helps you create both the life and relationships that you want by helping you develop new skills and behaviors. This can allow you to share yourself more easily and comfortably.

We also help you to see yourself from a different perspective so that you can appreciate the good parts of yourself that you might be struggling with now.

Therapy is More Than Coping Skills
When you see a psychologist for individual therapy, you get more than just coping skills. Instead of just rearranging the furniture in the house of your psyche, we completely remodel, starting with the foundation.
We look deeply at what your life is like now and get to the heart of what isn’t working and why. We begin at the very deepest level and work our way up.
When we’re done, you won’t be a new person, but the same person approaching life in a new way.
The same person, just feeling better about who they are and how their life is going.
Over the 30 years that I have been in practice, I’ve developed a method that my clients have found quite helpful. It involves investigation, education, and training.

Investigation
We explore your life and what is and isn’t working.

Education
I provide education on what is going on and behaviors that will and won’t improve your situation.

Training
We work together to help you apply the skills and changes you’ve decided to make to your life.
If this sounds like a good fit for you

Meet Your Therapist

Hi, I’m Dr. Katherine Kilgore.
I’ve been a practicing psychologist since 1995, helping people who are uncomfortable with their lives get to a place where they feel confident.
I know that what works for one client might not always work for the next. So I’m not afraid to learn something new and try it if it’s going to help my clients.
I’ve been described as gentle, yet someone you can trust to tell you the hard truth when you need to hear it.
I’m not going to tip toe around what is going on if it will help you improve your life.
I’ll help you get to the life you want to live.

FAQ’s
One sign that you might need therapy is that you have tried on your own without any or very little change. Therapy can also be helpful if you know what you need to do but are struggling to put it into practice.
I start by meeting with my clients weekly, and, as time goes on, we might meet less frequently.
For many clients, the act of going to therapy and telling someone what is going on provides a certain level of relief. After that initial improvement, you will slowly notice changes in how you engage in the world and feel as we go deeper and address what needs to change.
Usually, during our sessions, I will ask you questions that you will then answer. These questions are designed to help you see yourself and your life from a different perspective. As time goes on, this new way of thinking will happen more automatically.
Therapy can be a lot of emotional work and can involve looking at some hard realities.
But this is often like the soreness that comes with working out. It hurts a little, but over the long run, you know it’s a good sign.
I am always present with you so that you aren’t alone when facing the uncomfortable emotions.
A lot of the success that people have in therapy is about the fit that they have with their therapist. This means seeing just any therapist isn’t necessarily going to be helpful.
The therapist you are working with needs to be a good fit for your personality but also their approach needs to be a good fit for you.
So if you’ve tried therapy before and don’t feel like it worked, it’s worth trying again.
Yes, what we discuss in our sessions is confidential, with a few exceptions, such as if you or someone else is in danger.
Dr. Kilgore takes Aetna, Triwest, Tricare, and Medicare only. If you aren’t covered by one of these insurance panels, your insurance may not cover any of our work together, or they may only cover a small portion.
The atmosphere in therapy with me is one of safety and acceptance. My job is to get to know you on a deep level so I can help you create the life that you want. When I ask questions, it is to ensure that I understand you and your life.
For many people, just speaking out loud the thoughts and feelings that are going through their head is a huge relief. My clients find that the work we do after that initial stage helps get them closer to the life they want.
